No U.K., I didn't take off the decals. They are just small on the '95 model. I believe there is a layer of clear coat over the decals. Search the forum below for postings on this. I think I read something about this once.
My view on the decal removal:
If you're taking them off for a custom paint job, that's one thing. But if you're taking them off to fool people it's not a Suzuki, I think that's kinda goofy. The Savage is what it is: a cool, well designed, good-looking *Japanese* big single. That sets it apart from other imitation Harleys. For example, when you see Savages for sale on eBay, the sellers almost always include in the sales pitch: "looks like a Harley" or similar statement because this bike does appeal to people who like Harleys but for various reasons can't/don't buy one. My neighbor just bought his first bike: a beautiful 1998 1200cc Sportster Sport. After I gawked over his bike, I showed him my Savage and he goes, "Oh, I thought this was a Harley." He'd only seen it before from a far.
To be honest with you, I'd love to be on a Harley. I've talked at least 2 friends into buying one recently! Those that have owned them here in the forum have various opinions on them. I know more about the different Harley models than any other make.
I really like my Savage and am getting my hands dirty working on it. At the low price tag and minimalist design, I'm trying to learn what I can about working on and riding cycles. That’s what motorcycling all about to me. Eventually, my goal is to upgrade to a Harley. Who knows when, though. There's something there about 100 years of tradition. I'm enthralled by motorcycle history and H-D is a large part of it. To own a piece of that history seems cool to me.
Bottom line, I'm proud the Savage is what it is, so I actually want to keep the decals on mine. Buy hey, do what you like to your bike. If this site proves anything, it's that you can customize the Savage in countless ways (just look at the beauties in the photo page).
Wow, I didn't expect to say so much!
